Lakewood Elementary is a Title 1 Community School in Durham with a majority-minority student population. The Friends of Lakewood Elementary Parent Teacher Association is a 501(c)(3) volunteer non-profit organization of parents, teachers, and friends of the school dedicated to improving our students’ lives in and out of school. We serve close to 400 students and their families, and over 50 teachers and staff who work at the school. Examples of the programs we fund are:
• Interpretation, food, and childcare at all PTA meetings
• Teacher and staff appreciation and support throughout the year
• Family Crisis Fund for families in need
• Educational Enrichment Activities such as Field Trips
• Family and Community Events
