The mission of the North Shore Symphony Orchestra is to present professional quality concerts performed by local musicians; to maintain and foster an interest in and enjoyment of classical music for audience and musicians alike; and to be an affordable cultural resource for the Long Island community.

Founded in 1961, the NSSO has provided a way for hundreds of local musicians from all walks of life to present professional quality concerts to Long Island audiences. In recent years we have been focusing on developing our youth audience particularly from underserved communities. Every other year, we sponsor a Young Artists Award Competition to give talented high school students an opportunity to perform as a soloist with a full orchestra. We strive to keep our ticket prices low to make our concerts accessible to everyone. Despite inflation, our ticket prices have not changed in ten years: general admission is $15 and seniors $12. In fact, our online student discount tickets have been reduced to  $5, and children 12 and under are now FREE!.

Now in its 61st season (2022-2023), the NSSO is a nearly all volunteer orchestra with an annual budget of about $26,000. We are partnering with Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center which provides performance space to present five concerts this season. Our programming is diverse to broaden the appeal of "classical music" to a wider audience. Last year, we accompanied Adelphi University's Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner tribute. Our most recent concert had a Halloween theme featuring Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain," Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King," Saint Saens
Danse Maccabre," and other spine-tingling pieces.
