Gateway Community and Technical College is a two-year, public community and technical college that serves the Northern Kentucky area and borders both Indiana and Ohio. Our diverse and all-embracing student population ranges from high school students taking dual-credit courses, adults pursuing a postsecondary degree or skilled training, to older adults returning to school to complete their GED, postsecondary education, or begin a new career path. The college provides college degree transfer credits, dual-credit, and skilled training for more than 24 associate degrees, 12 diplomas, and 28 certificates in 33 subject areas.

The degree and certificate programs are "stackable" and easily transferable to other higher education institutions in the state with whom Gateway has articulated transfer agreements. On average, the cost of an associate degree at Gateway is approximately $10,000 less than the cost of attaining the same credential at a local four-year university. Gateway's student population primarily consists of low-income and disproportionately nontraditional college students. Gateway serves more than 4,000 students per semester. Forty-six percent of Gateway's nontraditional students earn income below the poverty threshold level of $24,750 for a family of four, and a third of our student body report they are making less than $10,000 annually, despite their independent status. A typical Gateway student is a single parent in their mid-to-late-20's making an annual income of about $10,000 and working at least part-time in a service industry while enrolled in classes.

To help more students afford and graduate from college, Gateway Community and Technical College takes aggressive steps that address challenges underserved students face toward seeking postsecondary education. These steps include keeping tuition rates low, offering scholarships, and providing services that remove non-academic barriers, giving students the best opportunity to complete their degree or certification.
