Genesee Country Village & Museum (GCV&M) is the largest living history museum in New York State, with the third-largest collection of historical buildings in the country. For more than 50 years, the Museum has been dedicated to preserving the historical, cultural, environmental, and architectural heritage of the Genesee Valley Region in New York State, with the mission that "Through immersive experiences, we enrich life today by connecting people with history, art, and nature." Located in Mumford, N.Y. (Monroe County – 20 miles SW of Rochester and 45 miles E of Buffalo), GCV&M’s 600-acre campus is comprised of three parts: the Historic Village, John L. Wehle Gallery, and Genesee Country Nature Center. The Museum attracts between 75,000-95,000 visitors of all ages annually, including almost 20,000 school children and 2,500 member households. On a daily basis, visitors can experience first-hand: history, fine art, the great outdoors, open-hearth cooking, farmers tending animals and crops, school as it was in the 1800s, the printer, blacksmith, tinsmith, and potter in their shops, and so much more. GCV&M stewards considerable collections consisting of authentic historical structures, artifacts representing all manner of period objects (e.g. tools, furnishings, decorative arts, farm implements, textiles, books, printed materials, wagons, carriages, toys and musical instruments), textiles, and wildlife and sporting art. GCV&M also carries out a robust and varied year-round schedule of educational and entertaining programs for local, national, and international visitors of all ages. These include more than 20 weekend special events, exhibit openings, daily themed gatherings, group classes, guided and self-guided field trips, scheduled one-on-one experiences with interpreters, day camps, and more.
