Mission Statement: Giant Steps is committed to providing individuals with autism spectrum disorders, and their families, superior educational and therapeutic services focused on improving the quality of daily life from early childhood through adulthood.
Giant Steps was established in 1996 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation functioning as a non-public day school, providing educational and therapeutic services specifically designed for children with autism spectrum disorders. In 1997, Giant Steps became the first licensed therapeutic day school in the State of Illinois exclusively serving students with a primary diagnosis of autism. In 2009, Giant Steps secured a 72,800 square foot facility in Lisle, IL, to enhance its programming capacity. Its population soared from 40 to its current enrollment of 166 while serving 64 different school districts around the Chicagoland area. Today, our mission has expanded to include summer and holiday programming, vocational training, therapeutic riding, and an adult day program.
