For the past 40 years, the planning committee and faculty of the Gloria Shields NSPA
Media Workshop has provided area student media staffs with one of the top summer
journalism workshops in the nation.
Located in Dallas, TX, this four-day journalism camp, students
will attend classes taught by the best journalism teachers in the nation followed
by homework assignments, nightly staff meetings and team building activities.
Instructors are available to meet with individual staffs.
Please join our other generous donors in helping us reward high school student
journalists and their advisers for the week of work they put in to improving their
school media programs.
Using Dallas Dollars, which is play money given by instructors to participants as a
reward for their efforts on classroom work, students bid on items in a simultaneous
silent and live auction on the last evening of the workshop. Students may combine
their dollars for big items like an iPad, camera or $150 gift card to benefit their entire
staff. But they also use their dollars to take away more personal items such as office
supplies, T-shirts, movie passes, $10 or $15 gift cards, books and silly caps. All items are
donated by businesses, faculty, alumni and friends, and we are thrilled to receive all
donations, big and small.
The GS workshop is sponsored by National Scholastic Press Association, a 501(c)3
organization with EIN/tax ID #41-6040857. No goods or services are provided in
exchange for donations.
To learn more about the workshop, I encourage you to look at our website (gloriashieldsworkshop.com) as we are passionate about continuing the legacy Gloria
Shields started so long ago. Speaking as a former attendee of this workshop, I can
attest it shaped me into the journalist I am today. Because its excellence continues, I
bring my students to this workshop every summer.
Thank you for your consideration.
