Golf Fore the Kids was inspired by a wish to give back, if only in a small way, and help others facing a cancer diagnosis in a child.  It began with the compassion and kindness that we witnessed as my nephew Jacob was undergoing his treatment for Neuroblastoma. As a result of this experience, Golf Fore the Kids began in 2003 to help kids battling cancer. Jacob lost his battle in 2007, just after his tenth birthday, but the need continues.  As we move on to our 17th year, we continue to be overwhelmed by both the number of children diagnosed with cancer each year (over 13,000) and the endless support needed to help these kids get better and back to the business of just being kids.

Golf Fore the Kids is an annual fundraising golf tournament, and includes a raffle and silent auction. The mission of Golf Fore the Kids is to promote research to find a cure for childhood cancer; increase public awareness about the severity and prevalence of childhood cancer; and provide various forms of assistance to children diagnosed with cancer to lessen the emotional and financial impact of treatment on them and their families.  With only 4% of the federal government’s cancer research funding going to childhood cancer, every bit of privately raised funding means a great deal.  Therefore, the funds we raise go to three places: the Clinical Trials Program at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center; the Jimmy Fund (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute); and the Hole-in-the-Wall-Gang Camp.  We are a volunteer organization, so 100% of the money raised goes to benefit the cause.  Going into our 17th year, Golf Fore the Kids has raised $660,000 to support these organizations.
