The Greenview Community in located in North Columbia and was a planned community formed in 1948 for African American Veterans returning home from World War II.  It was created as a result of provisons of the G.I. Bill or the "Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944".  This at of the Unite States Congress also provided for college or educational training for returning World War II Veterans and provided loans for buying homes and starting businesses.

The Greenview Reunion Foundation was organized in 2003 by current and former residents who were committed to giving back to their community.  The foundation's purpose is to award academic scholarships through the Carolyn Wood-Ellison Scholarship Fund to qualifying high school seniors and to sponsor and provide services to enhance the betterment of the community.
