I am reaching out on behalf of the Joliet Area Pink Heals Chapter, 501(c)3, a not-for-profit group. We focus on providing support to families battling any kind of illness, from cancer, heart disease, and ALS to name a few. Our support goes beyond volunteers driving up with sirens blazing in a pink firetruck and police car, along with local fire, police, family, and friends of the sick. The guest of honor will receive flowers, hugs/fist bump, words of encouragement from everyone, and to end the visit the family is presented with a check for financial support. It gives you goosebumps hearing the sirens right before you arrive at their home, knowing the smile that will be brought to them, and just being able to take their mind off their illness for 15 – 20 minutes is just an amazing feeling.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous support from our community and volunteers. With past donations we have been able to assist hundreds of families each year, and we continue to grow with the number of families we can help.
All the proceeds from the fundraisers will be used to provide families with financial support, Thanksgiving meals, Christmas meals and gifts. We strive to help and touch as many families as possible, and in turn they become our family as well. Most families we assist want to give back by becoming volunteers with Pink Heals, which speaks volumes about our organization.
