Habitat for Humanity of Martin and Faribault Counties works with low income families and community partners to construct simple, decent, affordable homes for families who would not otherwise qualify for a homeowner mortgage. We work with community groups, churches, contractors, Sentence to Serve, and our homeowner families to build homes using as much volunteer labor as possible, which really helps keep the price of the house down. We also provide the families with a no interest mortgage, which allows them to pay off their home within twenty years. Having your own home really makes a world of difference to a family! We are currently working on two homes - one will have two adults and five children, and the other will have two adults and seven children. The family with seven children currently live in a two bedroom mobile home, which is woefully inadequate on so many levels. We need to have a successful fundraiser in order to finish the homes we are working on.
