With the help of volunteers, donors, partners, and Habitat homeowners, we build and rehabilitate decent and affordable homes, from single-family houses to multi-unit developments. We don’t give away free homes – the families and individuals who partner with us pay an affordable mortgage geared to their income.

Our model of affordable homeownership bridges a gap for low-income, working families and individuals, by providing them with the opportunity to purchase their own homes.

Since 2002, we’ve helped 83 families into affordable homeownership in the Peterborough and Kawartha Region.

Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region also operates three ReStores: Peterborough North, Lindsay, and Lakefield. These non-profit stores sell new and gently used building materials, furniture, and home décor. Shopping, donating, and volunteering at ReStores supports affordable homeownership and sustainability by diverting items from landfills. In 2023, Habitat PKR’s ReStores diverted 331,730 items from landfill. They offer free donation pickup for larger items and a free Kitchen and Home Deconstruction service. Each ReStore has a unique inventory, changing daily with new donations from residents and businesses.

Every purchase goes towards our mission to helps improve lives and benefits the community and environment.
