Mission Statement
Purpose and Beliefs
The Halifax Humane Society exists to protect animals from cruel, neglectful and exploitative treatment.
It is the belief of the Society that all living creatures possess an intrinsic value, which is manifested in its creation. Further, the Society believes that mankind must become a responsible steward of animals which he has domesticated and brought under his control.
The Society shall maintain programs and services, which embrace that principle:
- Maintain a shelter facility to provide for the needs of lost, forsaken and abandoned animals;
- Educate and continually acquaint the citizens, particularly children, with the ethics of kindness and compassion, thereby engendering respect for all living beings;
- Investigate complaints of animal abuse and correct those situations by way of education, or if need be prosecution;
- Prevent the overpopulation of domestic animals by providing affordable spay and neuter opportunities to the public, while making certain that animals adopted from the Shelter never contribute to the problem.
The Halifax Humane Society is planning the 9th Annual Fur Ball, our largest annual fundraising event, which will be held on December 13, 2018 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Halifax Humane Society is Volusia County’s single largest animal welfare organization, providing immediate care and ongoing services to over 25,000 animals annually. All proceeds from the event are used to support our mission of saving and rehabilitating the lives of lost, abandoned, neglected, and unwanted animals in our community, and to place them in forever loving homes. We receive no government funding and therefore must constantly fundraise to fulfill our mission.
Fur Ball is expected to draw over 600 of our most influential and affluent community members. Guests enjoy a catered dinner, cocktails, entertainment, decadent treats from our famous Chocolate Lounge, and the opportunity to participate in a silent auction.
We are in the process of collecting auction items, and I’m writing to request your assistance in making our Fur Ball a success. By donating an item, you'll be making a tax-deductible contribution that will help Halifax Humane Society continue to improve the lives of animals in need, right here in our community. Supporting businesses will be featured on our event website. In addition, we will offer a “support our supporters” flyer listing contact details for these businesses.
