The Hastings & Prince Edward Learning Foundation’s (HPELF) goal is to fundraise for programs and services that overcome barriers and help students succeed in school.
We believe that all students should have the support they need to realize well-being and success, and we’re committed to creating equal opportunities for all students. We want to help students actively participate in their school life with the goal of graduation and ultimately future success.
Our programs are universally accessible, breaking down barriers and levelling the playing field in a non-stigmatizing way.
The Sharing Cupboards are currently a program for secondary students to provide a supply of nutritious food and household items for students to take home. Currently, we have a Sharing Cupboard at each of the Secondary Schools in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board; Bayside Secondary School, Centennial Secondary School, Central Hastings School, Eastside Secondary School, North Hastings High School, Prince Edward Collegiate Institute
The Food for Learning (FFL) program, ensures that all students have access to healthy nutritious food while at school. When students eat better, they can learn better. Food for Learning provides an average of food to over 7,000 students each school day, in the form of a balanced breakfast, healthy snack or nutritious lunch. On average, the Food for Learning program purchases $20,000 in groceries for the students each and every week during the school year.
The Student Emergency Fund is accessible to children and their families when they need us the most, in emergency situations that are unexpected, unforeseen, and require immediate action so students can continue to fully participate in their learning. Last year, there were 268 requests to support students and their families.
