The mission of Healthcare Alternative Systems, Inc. (HAS) is to provide a continuum of multicultural and bilingual (English/Spanish) behavioral care and social services that empower individuals, families, and communities. HAS' vision is to implement sustainable programs that benefit society by improving the well-being and recovery efforts of those individuals, families, and communities impacted by behavioral health problems. HAS offers a holistic and integrated approach to behavioral health, providing a variety of services designed to complement the agency’s substance use treatment and mental health programs. HAS began in 1972, evolving from a conversation between people in recovery deeply concerned about the lack of treatment services for Hispanics in Chicago. After nearly 50 years of service and commitment to the community, the organization has firmly established itself as a leading provider of mental and behavioral health services for disadvantaged individuals and families. 
 
HAS is registered as a non-profit with 501(c)3 status. The agency has the highest level of accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). HAS is licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse and the Division of Mental Health. A certified Medicaid and CMS provider, HAS is part of Illinois’ network of affordable care providers.   
 
HAS made remarkable strides, expanding to 15 locations across Chicago and Suburban Cook County, as well as DuPage County. The organization is constantly working to expand reach and scope of its programs across 15 locations in the greater Chicago area, touching the lives of 7,000 individuals on average annually, with roughly 3,000 individuals having enrolled in HAS programs in 2022, and overall, bringing about large-scale change. In a survey conducted in FY2022: 92% of guests agreed that HAS provides excellent services, 94% agreed they were treated professionally and respectfully by staff, and 91% said they would use HAS services again and/or recommend HAS to others.
