Heightened Independence and Progress (hip) is a 501(c)(3) non-residential Center for Independent Living that has been providing programs and services to people with disabilities in northern New Jersey (Bergen and Hudson Counties) for over 35 years.  hip’s services include peer support, advocacy, care management, and a Braille transcription service.  Other programs provide funding for the purchase of disability-related equipment and home modifications that increase accessibility and safety, and another assists high school students with disabilities to successfully transition to adult life. 

The majority of hip’s Board of Trustees and staff are people with disabilities, which creates a welcoming environment for the people we serve and enables the agency to have a clear understanding of the needs of the community.
