H.I.S. BridgeBuilders is a movement of God uniting Christians across cities to transform urban communities through education, health, employment, and spiritual development for the Glory of God. In San Antonio, the work is centered in the near east side in an impoverished neighborhood (formerly the Wheatley Courts Housing Development area of the city). This apartment complex has been demolished and replaced with the East Meadows Apartments. We have two facilities as well as a covered pavilion in this community. We provide after school mentoring, homework support, and computer access for the children of the neighborhood. During the summer, we have a reading program to encourage the children to improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills. We have delivered fruit to approximately 5,000 people as part of our relief efforts. We have provided basic medical screening, women's health, vision testing, small job training activities, and monthly neighborhood-wide events, where we also provide clothing, live Christian music, and the presentation of the Gospel. Seasonally, we provide back packs and school supplies, Thanksgiving food baskets, Christmas gifts, and other special items as needed by the neighborhood. We work with the Excel Beyond the Bell-SA and several of the local elementary & secondary schools, and the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA). Since our request last year, we have also expanded to serve a community on the west side of San Antonio.
