The Hoboken Community Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides essential services and spaces to support the well-being of the Hoboken, NJ community. It has a three-pronged mission consisting of affordable housing for 96 low-income men, a 40,000+ square foot community and recreation center under rehabilitation at 1301 Washington Street, and a food, hygiene and pet supply pantry.

The Hoboken Community Center is located at 1301 Washington Street in Hoboken, at the former site of the North Hudson-Hoboken YMCA. The local branch was founded in 1927 and was one of the oldest YMCAs in the United States. It operated a recreational center that was open to the community and a housing facility for low- and moderate-income men. Although the recreational space closed in 2009 due to a lack of available funding, the affordable housing remained open. In 2013, the housing facility was renovated and expanded. Today, 96 low-income men live in a separate, privately-accessed space adjacent to the HCC’s planned community space.

Also in the HCC building is the temporary home of the Hoboken Community Center Pantry. What began as a small operation in 2019 to address food insecurity among the men in the Affordable Housing has grown to biweekly distributions of fresh and non-perishable groceries and non-food items such as diapers, toiletries and cleaning products to any community member in need. Each month, the Pantry distributes more than 850 bags of food. The Pantry anticipates relocating to a permanent location in Hoboken in the near future.
