HoPe (Hispanic Organization Promoting Education), Inc. was incorporated in 2009 with the mission of building communities for Hispanic/Latino students to lead, serve, and thrive through leadership, education and community service. We accomplish this through our cornerstone after-school program, the HoPe Leadership Chapters, along with additional supplemental leadership/educational experiences for students, such as the HoPe Youth Leadership Summit, the HoPe Leadership Retreat, and the HoPe Leadership Conference.

The HoPe Leadership Chapters (HoPe Chapters) are our cornerstone after-school leadership and education program. HoPe Chapters provide students with a sense of belonging to their high school by building communities where students can lead, serve, and thrive. Each chapter is led by a group of 4 student leaders and 1-2 advisors (school faculty or staff).

This year we are expecting to impact a total of 4,000 high school students. When a student becomes a member of their HoPe Chapter, they benefit by receiving the following:

Community: A strong community/support system to navigate challenges and celebrate successes.

Sense of Belonging: A sense of belonging that provides students feelings of security, identity, and community, which, in turn, support academic, psychological and social development. Students who feel that they are part of a school community are more likely to perform better academically and be more motivated in school (Battistich et al., 1997; Goodenow, 1993). When students feel a connection with school, they are less likely to engage in risky and antisocial behavior (Catalano et al., 2004; Hawkins and Weis, 1985). Students with strong and rewarding social ties at school are less likely to drop out of school and never return (Lee and Burkam, 2003), or to engage in substance abuse and truancy (Schulenberg et al., 1994).

Leadership Opportunities: Students are able to engage in leadership training through monthly general meetings and HoPe events and leadership roles by participating as chapter officers, apprentices, and committee members.

Educational Attainment: Students will have access to educational resources, subject specific workshops, and one-on-one coaching to support their access to higher education.

Social Responsibility: Students can engage with community service projects in their local community, providing them the opportunity to build a heart for service while also adding to their resume for post-high school opportunities (college, scholarships, etc.).

Signature HoPe Events: Students are invited to participate in HoPe events which provide them access to community leaders, students from other HoPe chapters, and college representatives while engaging in keynote presentations, advanced leadership training, and culturally rooted experiences.

Other: Students will receive access to additional resources, such as financial literacy workshops, professional development opportunities, civic engagement training, etc.
