Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) is a non-profit, civil rights agency with a mission to promote the value of diversity and ensure all people an equal opportunity to live in the housing and communities of their choice. Through the education, advocacy, and enforcement of fair housing laws, HOME seeks to ensure that everyone is able to: have their voices heard on any and all housing issues; defend and safeguard their rights; and have their concerns genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives and housing.
HOME was founded in 1963 by clergy and laity from the Buffalo Area Council of Churches concerned about pervasive discrimination in the Buffalo-Niagara housing market. We are the only agency in Western New York providing comprehensive services for victims of housing discrimination. These services include: recording and investigating of reported incidences of discrimination; paralegal counseling; client advocacy; case preparation for legal action; and support services for victims and their families.
HOME holds a major yearly fundraiser to acknowledge and celebrate our programs and mission. This year's event is our 57th annual celebration and features a dinner program with keynote speaker Dr. JaNay Queen Nazaire, Chief Strategy Officer of Living Cities in Washington, D.C., and an awards ceremony for selected local community organizations and local leaders who support our mission and vision, which is fair housing for all. Additionally, we have basket raffles, a silent and live auction, and a Fund-A-Family component which benefits our Community Housing Center.
