In substance; The Illinois Public Pension Fund Association (IPPFA) is a nonprifit organization dedicated to protecting members through education and information. The IPPFA represents several hundred police and fire departments within the State of Illinois. Having said this, the IPPFA created the "Family Hero's Fund" that provides a small financial stipen in the event a first responder is involved in a traumatic event which renders him/her temporary or permanently disabled. Financially, the presentation of a one-time $5,000 benifit greatly helps a family with some monthly bills as the first responder recovers. However, there has been a few events where the first responded lost their life. The family did receive the $5,000 benefit.
