International Association of Women in Fire & Emergency Service (Women in Fire) is an organization of women and for women — but not for women alone. Our main goal is increasing diversity, inclusivity and acceptance to enhance the fire service. Together, the fire service can better serve our communities when we better reflect their beliefs, values and cultures.

As an interactive non-profit network, Women in Fire provides education, support and advocacy for fire service women. The network is linked and strengthened by its respected publications and podcasts, which cover informative topics on current issues from promotion and career development to recruitment programs and reproductive safety policies. Women in Fire holds seats on several committees and task groups of the National Fire Protection Association and other first responder related groups, where we have helped establish standards for firefighter qualifications. We often take part in advisory groups providing input to the National Fire Academy, and maintain collegial relationships with the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters and the National Association of Hispanic Firefighters. Two handbooks commissioned by the U.S. Fire Administration and authored by Women in Fire are considered authoritative references on gender issues in the fire service.
