The Japanese American Service Committee was founded in 1946 to serve the needs of Japanese immigrants and their American-born children upon arriving in Chicago following their incarceration during World War II.

Today, JASC’s mission is to engage people of all ages to experience Japanese American history and culture and to improve their wellbeing through innovative, high quality programs and services tailored to the multicultural community.

JASC accomplishes this through the work of highly trained and enthusiastic staff and volunteers and proactive collaboration with other agencies and organizations.

We offer community service, cultural, and educational programs. Social service programs serving the health and wellbeing of aging adults are provided both at our building and in client's homes. Cultural and educational programs include helping keep alive the cultural heritage of the Japanese American community in Chicago. We do this by maintaining an archives of Japanese American life in Chicago; observing and celebrating significant cultural and historical events; holding special activities for seniors, adults, youth, children, and families; teaching classes; and maintaining close ties with other Japanese American and Asian American organizations, including hosting many at our facility.
