Joseph's Hammer was established to raise the funds and build an 8,250 square foot multi-purpose worship center at the Ellen Halbert Women's Prison in Burnet, TX. This facility will provide space for faith-based classes, worship services and daily activities for the incarcerated women who are currently on waiting lists due to the limited size of the current facility and chaplaincy programs.
It is our hope that each woman who arrives for a 6-8 month drug and alcohol rehabilitiation sentence will participate in chaplaincy programs without limitation of space or class availability. There are 600 beds in this unit, so we have the opportunity to serve up to 1200 women each year. We know that faith-based instruction plays a pivotal role in dramatically reducing the recidivism rate in Texas prisons.
