UAS works with young adults (14-21 years) from Chicago Public high schools located on the West Side of Chicago. More than 90 percent of these young adults live at or below the poverty level. Our programs help to transition young adults with autism or related disabilities into competitive employment and/or meaningful days. They also receive clinical therapies such as speech and language, social work, and occupational therapy as these West Side schools do not have the same resources as counterparts.
UAS has a nationally recognized produce farm, Growing Solutions Farm which provides our young adults with work experience. Our restaurant quality produce is sold via CSA, local restaurants, and at our farm stands. Complimenting this program, is our UAS West Side Transition Academy which provides community immersion, job exploration, and internships as well as clinical interventions.
