The Junior Auxiliary of Searcy was established on April 12, 1973 . We currently have 15 active members with 8 of them serving on the board. In 1964, Junior Auxiliary founded the Sunshine School, which to this day is our main service project. The Sunshine School serves students of all ages with developmental disabilities. As part of our service project we host monthly birthday parties for the students where we serve cake and ice cream to each student. Every student with a birthday that month also receives a birthday card.  We also host an annual Halloween Party for all students and their families to attend. This halloween party allows parents to bring their children with developmental disabilities out to enjoy this day. We make sure we have games that are suitable for all ages and hold a costume contest.  Throughout the year we participate in multiple other projects in the community. A Day of Caring is an annual event sponsored by Unity Health Medical Center. Junior Auxiliary is responsible for supplying a sack lunch to underprivileged families and also underwear for children of these families. This year we were able to also supply nurses in the hospital with lunch as well. Angel Tree is one of the service projects that is very near to us. With the help of our community we are able to supply Christmas to over 200 children. Throughout the year we have been able to supply children in need with glasses, clothes, and other necessities that otherwise would have been unmet. We accept children for all of our surrounding CAPCA’s and the Sunshine School. These children then are “adopted” anonymously by members of our community to be shopped for.

To keep a connection with our local school district, we have an ongoing project with Searcy Learning Center. The Searcy Learning Center is an alternative method of instruction for students who are unable to be in a general education classroom setting. While enrolled in the Searcy Learning Center these students learn life skills that will allow them to be more self-sufficient and become outstanding members of our community. Junior Auxiliary supplies the SLC with groceries every Friday. The students pick a meal, make a grocery list and then use the ingredients we purchase to fully prepare the meal. Another way we help our local school district is by supplying clothing for our school nurses to use for students in need. Every year Junior Auxiliary of Searcy is also able to present two scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to two female students who plan on pursuing a future in education.

We are grateful for a community who stands behind us and helps us to make sure all of these projects run smoothly. Once a year we hold our annual Charity Ball which is our number one fundraiser. This allows us to make sure that our financial status stays well above our needs. Our 2021 Charity Ball profited well over $7,000 dollars, even during a time where everyone, including our small business, are struggling.

The Junior Auxiliary of Searcy has endured many struggles and overcame many obstacles. Our main struggle currently is keeping members engaged and active. Over this last year we were able to build a team that not only have come together and pushed through a year of adversity, but continued to prove why we do what we do for our community. Excellence can be defined as the quality of being outstanding or extremely good, and this last year JA of Searcy was nothing short of outstanding.
