MISSION

The Junior League of Los Angeles is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

JLLA is an organization of women continually training as community and civic leaders to create community impact. Junior League women are highly motivated individuals who transform their communities through advocacy, direct service, public education and fundraising.

Our commitment to training produces exceptional volunteers who are prepared, effective and transformational to any project we undertake.  Our trainings include leadership development, community programming, nonprofit fundraising, and public policy. Our members go on to join other nonprofit Boards and Commissions, create their own nonprofits, advocate for public policy issues and organize community programs.

JLLA takes a proactive approach to our work, developing and funding our own programs, service events, and workshops. Additionally, we partner with more than 30 community organizations each year to expand our reach and make a greater impact in the Los Angeles community.

HISTORY

In 1925 Mrs. Victor Jacomini (Katherine Thomas), Mrs. Harold Braly (Henriette Janss), and thirty-two other original members formed a group known as the Convalescent Children’s League (CCL). Having researched the community needs, CCL piloted the operation and support of a twelve-bed children’s convalescent home on Ingraham Street, which became part of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. This original founding group was admitted to The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) in 1926 and became the Junior League of Los Angeles (JLLA). Today, JLLA demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the betterment of the Los Angeles community. With 850 members providing over 60,000 hours of direct service annually, JLLA has a significant impact on the lives of those in need. By focusing on improving children's literacy, providing crucial resources and support to women experiencing homelessness, and equipping transitional-age foster youth with vital academic, career, and life skills, JLLA ensures that those who are most vulnerable are given the resources they need for success.
