In the late 1970s, California’s Prop 13 and other legal rulings limited a community’s ability to keep property taxes working at the local level in support of its public schools. Now property taxes are collected by the state and then redistributed to local school districts according to a local control formula – a formula that consistently places La Canada schools in the bottom 5 percent of Districts in the state. The La Canada Flintridge Educational Foundation, tax-exempt charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, was formed by concerned local parents over 35 years ago to help bridge the funding gap between what we receive from the state and what we need.

LCFEF raises money from parents, families and local businesses, and makes direct contributions to the District annually. Gifts finance programs, projects and staff salaries that benefit children enrolled in all levels of La Cañada schools. When school families make tax deductible donations to LCFEF, they are helping to keep class sizes small, hire high school counselors, update technology, and provide arts education and campus improvements.

LCFEF also runs an Endowment, which invests Endowment-directed donations for the long-term success and security of our schools.
