Lakeland Elementary/Middle School is a neighborhood community school in Baltimore, Maryland serving students in grades PK-8. Lakeland has built a safe and supportive community where students can thrive socially and academically. These outcomes are accomplished through the school’s robust offerings of wrap-around academic and community services through numerous partnerships. We are a traditional public school and are currently the 7th largest school in Baltimore with English Language Learners representing over 55% of our student population.
Lakeland also offers a Dual Language program, which provides students with the opportunity to receive grade-level content and curriculum in Spanish and English. Dual Language is a model of ESOL instruction for MLs, however not all Dual Language students are ELs nor are all DL students native Spanish speakers. Our program’s long-term goals are to build bilingualism, biliteracy, high academic achievement, and cross-cultural understanding for all students. The 2023-24 school year will mark our 8th cohort.
Students are able to participate in a wide variety of after school clubs, sports, and activities. Lakeland is proud to offer many extracurricular activities to our elementary and middle school students in partnership with the Lakeland Community and Steam Center (LC+SC).
