The private, nonprofit museum has grown from its grassroots beginning into a 40,000-square-foot museum affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, and a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers.
Its multifaceted educational programming reaches more than 90,000 learners each year and support its mission "to inspire a better understanding and appreciation of the natural world, the sciences, and ourselves through educational programs, exhibits and research." Programming focuses on the sciences, humanities, environment, natural history and Nevada.
