The Legion of Young Polish Women was founded in 1939, the day after Germany invaded Poland.  During World War II, Legion sent food and clothing to Polish prisoners of war and to widows and orphans in Poland.  Legion purchased medical equipment, hospital beds and ambulances for the Polish Army hospital in Great Britain. After the war, Legion set out to ensure that Polish culture, heritage and traditions remain an integral part of our ethnically diverse country.  For decades, Legion has made substantial donations to the arts and supported young poeple of the Polish American community, recognizing that they will be the ones to carry on Poland's legacy in years to come.  Legion has collected and donated over $2 million to various worthy causes.  Legion is unique in that multi-generations of women work side by side, not for one cause, but for many.

We have established the Women's Leadership Archives at Loyola University, have a room we dedicated at the Polish Museum of America and have given out over 30 scholarships (since 2015) to accomplished young ladies wishing to go to college to pursue their educational goals.
