Founded in 1961 as Literacy Instruction for Texas (LIFT), the organization was renamed Aspire in 2020 after the merger between LIFT and the Aberg Center for Literacy. The organization has created lasting, positive impacts for more than 100,000 individual students, their families, and the community at large.  Aspire builds on its reputation for going further than people expect to provide caring, compassionate, and empowering instruction for a lifetime of learning.

Aspire achieves its vision and mission through comprehensive, cradle-to-career education programs. Aspire serves North Texas adults who are beyond the compulsory school attendance age and either function below the high school level; lack a high school credential; or are unable to speak, read, or write in English. Aspire’s approach is different than other regional literacy programs because of its focus on extremely low literate students; its commitment to following national best-practice solutions for students, including those with learning differences; its ability to progress students to workforce readiness; its commitment to family literacy; its focus on workforce training programs to achieve a living wage; and its dedication to creating meaningful outcomes that reflect the individual priorities of its students. Through differentiated learning, Aspire strives to make a permanent positive impact on the state of generational literacy trends in North Texas.
