We have lost students within our community, and our very own school, to suicide which is the reason we started the Suicide Awareness Prevention Walk. A life is lost to suicide every 12.8 minutes in the United States. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among fifteen to twenty-four year olds and the second leading cause of death among college students. However, most Americans remain unaware that suicide is a national health problem. Our group is striving not only to raise funds but also to erase the stigma surrounding suicide and its causes, and encourages those who are suffering from mental illness to seek treatment.
