Los Angeles Team Mentoring (LATM)'s mission is to guide middle school students growing up in challenging urban environments to recognize and reach their full potential. Through a unique team-based approach to mentoring, both online and in the classroom, they are given the tools and support necessary to make positive choices during a critical period in their lives.

LATM's 30 years of service to the community has impacted over 30,000 under-served youth through 3 million volunteer hours.

Our programs and how we serve:

e-Works is LATM’s new virtual youth mentoring program. Youth are given year-long access to a team of 3-4 volunteer mentors, 10-15 peers, and 1 experienced staff member through a secure online platform. They participate in weekly mentoring sessions that follow a multimodal social and emotional learning-based curriculum. Additionally, they can attend skills-based workshops and virtual field trips led by trusted partners (i.e., a special look at architecture and engineering with ARUP, financial literacy with JPMorgan Chase, or STEM with Aerospace). This year, LATM’s corporate adopters include Keenan, EY, Bank of America, Cisco, JPMorgan Chase, Aerospace, and ARUP, all of whom go above and beyond by providing a dynamic and diverse group of volunteers.

TeamWorks program: LATM’s model is “group mentoring” which unites 3 adult mentors (a teacher, college student, and business professional) with 12 middle school students on a team.

Our program is unique as mentors from diverse perspectives are grouped on the same team, exposing our youth to multiple points of view in a mentor-rich environment.  Our model also enables us to reach more youth with a limited pool of mentors.

Throughout the year, the team uses an activity-based curriculum to work on the following areas of their development, with each phase culminating in an art project related to that phase:

  • Teambuilding & Leadership Development
  • Self-Esteem & Healthy Relationships
  • Conflict Resolution & Anger Management
  • Cultural Diversity & Community Service
  • Digital Citizenship
  • College Preparation
  • Life Skills
