The mission of the Valley Nature Center is to provide educational opportunities and foster an understanding of the biodiversity and unique flora and fauna of the Rio Grande Valley. It is our vision for every child to lead a healthy lifestyle, play and learn outdoors and become responsible stewards of our natural resources.
In 2017, we received the Texas Governor's Environmental Excellence award in the civic/community catagory. This year, we received the award in the education category! Historical challenges include poverty, language barriers, cultural preferences and more for which we continue to develop solutions and partnerships. Other challenges include the desperate need to include marginalized and vulnerable populations such as at-risk children or children with special needs in science, medicine and the health of our environment and community.
We work to overcome challenges to children's safety, wellbeing, education and futures.
