The Lunenburg Skate Park has the singular mission of raising the necessary capital resources to construct a permanent, concrete, skate, scooter and BMX facility.  The skate park, will be approximately 7.5k square feet and include a variety of obstacles and features that will cater to a wide range of disciplines and skill levels.  This park will be a community asset for youth both in the Town of Lunenburg as well as the overall region.  The goal this project to provide a safe recreational resource for area youth to enjoy.  This asset will provide youth with a healthy outdoor alternative to other less desirable choices, such as video games, vaping, drinking and drug use.

Our skateboarding/skate park committee, led by passionate high school students and supported by community volunteers, collaborate to help further the concept of funding and constructing a permanent / concrete skate park.  We are fortunate to have the support of the Town of Lunenburg which has donated the use of the property.

This team of young people have been working on this project for the past 4 years as part of a special school project that the Lunenburg Middle-High School has termed "Genius Hour".  It is essentially independent study with a purpose – the goal being to learn about something that interests them and the related processes that enables one to take a project or idea from concept to finished product.  As a function of this, not only have they learned about skate parks, but also construction, material selection, fundraising, project management, public speaking, local government and a host of other intangibles.  As part of this work, the students also conducted a public online needs assessment which yielded over 400 responses, 99% of which were overwhelmingly positive and in favor of the creation of such a facility.
