Disability Rights and Resources is an area Center for Independent Living. We serve as our area's resource center to safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities in our area. Our core services include but are not limited to: Peer mentoring, travel training to assist the disabled in navigating public transportation independently, youth mentoring, case management, Inofrmation and Referral and housing options' counseling. 

Back in the 70's, civil rights for persons with disabilities was non existent- but fortunately at that time, a group of determined and fearless persons with significant disabilties 'stormed' the US capitol to raise awareness for the rights of the disabled community with respect to accessibiltity issues, among other rights. Our Center has been in existent since 1980, serving thousands (actual: 9,553 in 2022) of persons in our 4 county service area ( Gaston, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, and Union) in North Carolina.
