Mar Vista Family Center (MVFC) provides families with quality early childhood education, youth enrichment and multi-generational programming, and the tools to create the positive change they want in their lives and communities.

Through the empowerment of the community, youth, and parents to play a larger role in the life of the preschool, MVFC’s founders developed a model of increased community involvement and personal responsibility. Parents, teens, and other members of the community became classroom volunteers, preschool teachers, mentors, fundraisers, and community advocates.

As additional services have been added over the years MVFC continues to involve the community in the decision-making and running of its programs. MVFC’s long-term involvement with entire families has resulted in improved family functioning, decreased domestic violence, improved youths’ academic successes, and higher rates of attendance at institutions of higher education.

The Center provides services that are culturally and linguistically sensitive, based on an in-depth understanding of families served by the center as well as their needs. Through its various programs, MVFC serves families – adults and over 250 children and youth each year, most of whom are in the low-income, undserved Latino community.
