In the great tradition of Catholic education, Mary Star of the Sea High School challenges students to reach their full human potential through a living faith in God. In the context of a small community environment based on mutual respect, the school prepares students for this world and the next by nourishing the soul, cultivating personal integrity, challenging the mind and fostering social responsibility.

Mary Star of the Sea High School is a Catholic, coeducational, secondary school located in San Pedro. Mary Star emphasizes limiting class size (24) to enhance a daily and personal interaction. The college preparatory curriculum offers a four-year honor/AP track option with inclusion opportunities for students with learning disabilities. Mary Star promotes growth in self-discipline and responsibility through leadership, athletic, and service programs, requiring students to volunteer 80 hours before graduation. Mary Star families typically work “blue-collar” jobs related to the Port of Los Angeles and public safety. More than 83% of students are registered as Catholic, however the school currently has student believers of other Christian and non-Christian faiths including Islam, Buddhism and other Christian faiths. The heritage of Mary Star students has traditionally been first and second generation descendants of Southern European and Mexican immigrants. A growing number of visiting international students from China, South Korea and Japan adds new culture to our campus.
