Maryland Therapeutic Riding's (MTR) mission is to improve the quality of life of children, adults, active military and veterans with special needs by connecting humans and horses in a healing environment.
MTR is a 501c3 that was founded in 1996 by Naomi Parry. Starting with one horse and one rider on a leased facility in Annapolis, MD. We have grown into an award winning organization, serving over 400 participants with approximately 4500 program hours annually. We serve children, adults, active and veteran military with physical, neurological, cognitive, genetic, emotional and/or behavioral challenges. Our services include adaptive riding, hippotherapy (equine-assistend physical-speech-occupational therapy), Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, and numerous other opportunities for healing and growth in our community.
We offer our services at a fraction of the actual cost, with the understanding that families with special needs/chronic health issues have higher health expenses, but can greatly benefit from our therapies. We also offer our services to active and veteran military at no charge.
MTR is proud to be a PATH International Premier Accredited Center as well as a Maryland Horse Discovery Center. We hold an Equus Guardian designation and are a chapter of Move United. We are also proud to have consistenly earned a Platinum Transparency Seal from Candid.
