The Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Public Charity founded by Peter Brown and Victoria Sardi-Brown, in loving memory of their seven-year-old son Mattie, who died in 2009 from Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. The Foundation was incorporated in the State of Virginia on November 2, 2009.

Mattie Miracle is dedicated to addressing the psychosocial needs of children and families living with childhood cancer as well as educating health care providers on the impact of such a diagnosis on children and their families. Mattie Miracle believes through increased awareness, education, and support, and advocating for psychosocial support and needs, we can enhance the lives of children with cancer.

Our Foundation will be hosting its annual virtual Childhood Cancer Awareness Walk and Raffle. Historically over 400 attendees come to the event each year and learn about the disease and help us generate funds to support the psychological and emotional support services we offer children and families. All event proceeds fund our psychosocial services and are not used for overhead or administrative costs.

Mattie Miracle is committed to addressing the psychosocial needs of children and families living with childhood cancer as well as educating health care providers on the impact of such a diagnosis. Thanks to our supporters, since 2011, we have been able to 1) raised over $1M to fund our psychosocial programs and initiatives, 2) supported 38,000 children and their families, 3) funded 6 child life specialists, 4) delivered snacks to 26,000 in-patient families, 5) awarded $165,000 in research grants, 6) provided 59,000 pounds of sweet treats, 7) donated 25,000 toiletry supplies to hospitals, 8) awarded 18 M&M Wishes, 9) provided three therapy support grants to families coping with childhood cancer and 10) published the first evidence based Psychosocial Standards of Care. Mattie Miracle is strategizing with our core research team and payors on how to implement these Standards. Implementation of Standards would ensure that all children with cancer and their families have access to optimal psychosocial care throughout their cancer journey.

Our goal is to raise over $100,000 at the event so that we may continue to endow the Mattie Miracle Child Life Program Fund at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (Washington, DC) and Children’s Hospital at Sinai (Baltimore, MD). In addition, Walk proceeds fund the implementation of national Psychological Standards of Care to support children with cancer and their families.

We are requesting a gift certificate of four tickets to your Park to feature at our virtual Walk & Raffle. We thank you in advance for supporting our vital psychosocial mission with goods in kind.
