McCord Gallery & Cultural Center was founded on the mission to preserve the historic McCord House as a learning center for the arts and cultural history, while showcasing the artwork of local and regional artists. As a welcoming home for the arts, McCord gives people of all ages access to free art exhibitions, provides a place to grow and learn in music and the arts, and is a venue to enjoy cultural events in the South Suburban community. We have recognized over the years that it is important for us to fulfill a need for programming for adults, young and old, and for adults with disabilities. Many of our students return year after year to further develop their skills, to receive critiques of their work and to enjoy the encouragement and support given by instructors and classmates. While continuing to offer exhibit space for community grade school and high school students each year, we focus our art classes primarily on an adult audience, and provide outreach art classes to the developmentally disabled adults from Park Lawn.

We seek out new themes for exhibits in the gallery to broaden our reach for open calls among local artists, as well as to collaborate with other art organizations to promote and exhibit their works. This allows us to bring a greater exposure of talent to those who come to view the exhibits in our gallery, as well as build on our awareness among those exhibiting artists who may not otherwise be aware of McCord Gallery & Cultural Center. And we seek to bring in performers who those in the community might not otherwise come to know.
