Mercy Medical Angels removes the barrier to medical care with transportation on the ground and in the air.
Founded 50 years ago, Mercy Medical Angels is the nation's largest provider of charitable transportation for those in financial need to reach their critical medical treatments. Free trips are provided by ground with gas cards, train and bus tickets and by air with commercial airline tickets and volunteer pilots. Mercy Medical Angels is guided by the belief that access to the best health care should not be limited by a person's financial status. Each mile provided is life changing and often, lifesaving.
Mercy Medical Angels is based in Virginia Beach, VA, but is national in reach and provides these trips to residents of all 50 states. Thanks to our supporters, last year the Organization provided 27,561 free trips for low-income patients and care givers across the country. Of these trips, 21,747 were for cancer patients; 9,990 for children; 3,537 were for Veterans with many of them to treatment for PTS, Traumatic Brain Injury, cancer, Gold Star Family counseling, adaptive sports and to train with and acquire service dogs.
Mercy Medical Angels is a very efficiently run organization; 89% of all donations are used for program support. The Organization consistently receives a Platinum level Seal of Transparency through Candid (formerly GuideStar) and a 98/100 Encompass rating from Charity Navigator.
