Our mission is to enhance ocean and climate science literacy among multicultural communities while supporting marine research and conservation in order to promote healthy ocean ecosystems and inspire the next generation. MERITO strives to teach students the importance of the ocean in their lives, awareness of ocean-related threats, and the adoption of environmentally friendly practices so that we all contribute to ocean protection. We serve the students, teachers and communities in Ventura, Oxanrd, Port Hueneme, Santa Barbara county and Kern county. We accomplish our mission through hands-on research, field experiences for students, professional workshops for educators and community outreach programs.
