Along with providing disaster relief, Midwest Food Bank simultaneously and collaboratively addresses the immense amount of food waste in our country and the significant number of our population experiencing food insecurity.  According to the US Department of Agriculture, food waste is estimated at between 30-40 percent of the food supply in the US, meanwhile over 10% of individuals in Georgia are not able to provide adequate food for one or more household members due to lack of resources.  We address the dual crisis of hunger and food waste by utilizing volunteers to rescue food while partnering with 232 nonprofits to provide for the hungry at ZERO COST to those serving the individuals and families in need of help. We realize that by reducing the amount of food waste sent to landfills, we can put food in the mouths of over a 140,000 people throughout our state and surrounding states every year while easing the impact on our environment. Our partner agencies must agree to give away the food free of charge. Out of the 232 nonprofit partners we serve, 179 of those nonprofits are located in Metro Atlanta. We also serve nonprofit partners from all over the state of Georgia as well as surrounding states.

99.6% of every dollar we receive goes directly toward providing food to vulnerable people. Midwest Food Bank has been awarded four out of four possible stars by Charity Navigator for ten years in a row.  Only 3% of charities share this accomplishment!
