Minnie Gant's mission, supported by the Minnie Gant PTA, is to challenge and educate all students to become independent life-long learners so they will be successful and responsible citizens in a competitive society. Minnie Gant is a wonderful neighborhood elementary school just outside the boundaries of CSU Long Beach with a highly diverse student body and a great sense of community. The PTA funds and organizes many programs that benefit students, parents, teachers, and our community including school activities and fairs, education supplies, educational programs like ground education (science and agriculture) and meet the masters (art), teacher supply stipends, IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility), before/after school yard duties, safe drop off and pickup, school improvements (recent addition of an electronic billboard in front of the school for important announcements), etc. From a previous document here are some stated goals of our PTA chapter. PTA will provide enrichment for our children including: host the annual Reflections Art Contest, Educate through Red Ribbon, Pi Day, and Earth Week activities, Build character through APEX leadership programming, Add enjoyment with events likes Snow Day and Halloween Carnival, and Plan and oversee 5th grade promotion activities. PTA will support our school indluding: Fund Scholastic News Magazine and Reading Counts subscriptions, Fund Mystery Science and Generation Genius programs, Fund extra classroom supplies for our teachers, Fund materials for Resources Specialist Program, and Host Teacher Appreciation Week and Teacher of the Year events. PTA will Build Community including: Gators Give Back nights where families ordered takeout to support local restaurants during the pandemic, Veteran's day assembly, and Bethune Toy Drive. PTA will Communciate including: Hold association meetings monthly during the school year with free childcare so all possible parents can attend, send out weekly email blasts through room parents with information on school and PTA activities, maintain school website and google calendar, and post announcements on instagram and facebook.
