Mosaic Movement’s Mission

Mosaic’s mission is to positively impact families in communities that often experience disparities due to the historical marginalization of groups and to improve the learning opportunities within urban communities. Our community programs are an in-depth training to create agents of change by progressively improving the way of life for a child, a family, and a community.

Who we serve

Our program assists children (between 18 months-5 years old) discover their voice and build on their identity. The purpose of our program is to be a bridge between home and elementary school. Our goal by the end of our program is for children to be equipped with learning strategies and be able to speak for themselves by the time they start school. With these skills alone we help support them in academics while also supporting their social skills in creating and maintaining healthy relationships.

How we serve children

We serve children through our child development program.

We target 6 areas:

1.     Social Emotional Learning (SEL) – we work with children to identify emotions, teach them to respond to daily frustrations by having them choose positive coping skills (i.e., breathing, counting, squeezing a ball, etc.), and finally we create dialogue on ways they can express themselves effectively.
2.     Communication – our goal is for each child to discover the power of their voice by the time they finish our program. Each child will engage in activities that promote community, team building, debate, and advocacy.
3 & 4. Fine Motor & Gross Motor – our goal is for each child to be self-sufficient; we accomplish this by incorporating daily tasks (i.e., holding and using a pencil or stacking blocks). In addition, we teach skills related to movements of large muscles (i.e., legs, arms, and hands) and help children reach their developmental milestones (i.e., kicking a ball, going upstairs, opening a container, etc.). Each time a child accomplishes a goal independently, it increases their confidence and builds their self-esteem.
5.     Physical Activity – our goal is for physical activity to be part of a child’s daily routine. This component helps us teach children how to release tensions and frustrations, all while supporting and balancing a child’s emotions and coordination.
6.     Developmental Milestones –we teach skills based on a child’s developmental stage. At our program we help each child get to their developmental age and make sure they’re ready for the next one.
