The annual Moss Haven Elementary PTA Auction is our primary fundraising effort and serves to augment the efforts of our wonderful teachers and staff. And, in recent years, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of community-minded businesses and individuals like you, have made it a success.
Our goal for Auction 2023 is $200,000. The live event on February 25, 2023, will provide a range of high quality parties, experiences, and live auction items. It will follow our “silent” pre-auction that runs February 6-12, 2023. This year is wedding themed, For Better or For Worse! It’s time to dust off our wedding best and eat, drink, and be giving!
Below are some of the PTA’s annual priorities & highlights from last year’s disbursements:
MHE For All Students: Funds from the auction offset or pay the costs of school supplies and other needs for our low-income students, provide reading and math specialists for children learning both above and below grade level, and pay for field trips. Last year, Moss Haven saw an increase in economically disadvantaged students and we use the funds raised to bridge the gap between what our state and district provide to give all Moss Haven students access to the same enriching opportunities.
Diversity and Inclusion Objectives: From offering dynamic speaker events to installing ADA-compliant swings and playground toys, the PTA makes celebrating diversity and working toward equity a priority. The PTA has also purchased SLC sensory learning equipment, furnished classrooms with books that feature diverse characters, and sent our dyslexia teachers to conferences.
Learning Environments: Our PTA gives each teacher a $300 gift card to purchase school supplies at the beginning of each year and has purchased whiteboard desks for various classrooms. Over the last two years, the PTA has additionally purchased student headphones, PE sports equipment, basketball and soccer goals, classroom rugs and light boxes for the art room.
The Moss Haven Farm & EMERGE Lake Highlands: The PTA proudly supports our sister organizations. The farm, a jewel in the MHE community and the gold standard of urban school farms in North Texas, celebrated its 10th anniversary on May 1, 2022. And EMERGE Lake Highlands provides food for MHE students over longer holiday breaks, among other objectives.
Beyond MHE: The auction funds college scholarships for former MHE Mustangs and supports the PTAs of Junior High and surrounding elementary schools.
