My Possibilities is a non-profit organization that was established in Plano, Texas in 2008 as a continuing education center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Over 250,000 adults with special needs in North Texas find that their opportunities for further education abruptly end after high school. The purpose of My Possibilities is to confront this immense educational void with programs designed specifically for these individuals. Our curriculum focuses on vocational training and job placement, self-advocacy, socialization and independent-living skills, health and wellness practices, and creative expression. This approach encourages life-long learning and independence, while enhancing quality of life and the dignity of adults with disabilities.
Over 630 HIPsters (Hugely Important People) attend My Possibilities each week in-person and online. They differ widely in their challenges but share a boundless enthusiasm to learn, grow, volunteer, work, develop their talents, and contribute to their community. These HIPsters have much to offer society, yet need ongoing support and encouragement to remain engaged.
The demand for quality, continuing education programs across North Texas is ever-expanding; space is limited, vacancies are few, and a waiting list persists. Our passion for creating meaningful opportunities distinguishes us from all other providers. We are proud that within and beyond our community, My Possibilities is considered a trailblazer for our innovative model of education for this important, underserved population.
