The mission of the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania (MGA) is to address the medical, social and emotional needs of all affected by Myasthenia Gravis and to disseminate educational information to persons with Myasthenia Gravis, their families, the medical community and the general public.
Myasthenia Gravis is a chronic, neuro-muscular disorder that causes weakness of the voluntary muscles. The symptoms can make even the most basic functions such as walking, talking, chewing, swallowing and even breathing very difficult. It affects people regardless of age, race, or gender and there is no known cause or cure for the disease.
Founded in 1955, MGA is a private, not-for-profit providing support, education and advocacy programs and services for patients in 26 counties in Pennsylvania as well as parts of New York, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
