The Northeast Community Center serves the growth, development, and education of the diverse Historic Northeast in Kansas City, Missouri. Harmony Project KC, the flagship program of the Northeast Community Center, provides free, after-school orchestral music education and whole-family wraparound services to the children living in the vibrant immigrant and refugee hub of Kansas City. Harmony Project KC provides orchestral instruction, rehearsal, and performance opportunities to children in Kansas City’s urban core, with the goal of keeping them in school, improving academic performance, enhancing social and emotional well-being, and developing a college readiness mindset. Built through a public health perspective, HPKC serves children throughout their entire childhood (K-12) during out-of-school hours: after-school and on weekends.

The Northeast Community Center continues to serve a predominantly Hispanic population (48% of students). In 2021-22, 260 students ages 5-18 were 85% BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), 82% low income based on free/reduced lunch status. 75% of our students live in zip codes with some of the highest socioeconomic needs (four times Jackson County), lowest life expectancies (and some decreasing), median household incomes that are 50% lower than the County's, and crime rates in the 10th percentile for safety nationally (i.e. 90% are safer). 45% of NECC families live below the poverty line.
